Shogi piece polyhedron prototype

We saw voices saying they want tdk1986's "Shogi Piece Polyhedron" to be sold at the Shogi Hall, so I contacted the creator and decided to make it in such specifications.

What "Such Specifications" Means

"Such specifications" means not a one-of-a-kind craft item, but something that can be manufactured in quantities of 1000 or 3000 or more with the same finish and can be delivered to many people's hands.

Design Considerations

tdk1986's design is connected as one piece.

We need to consider what to do with this. Regarding paper layout, without reducing the size, we consider whether die-cutting is possible, or work efficiency with laser cutting, delivery format considers shipping costs, ease of handling at delivery, storage convenience, whether there's less breakage or failure during assembly, and also work efficiency during assembly.

Prototype Material

So we made a prototype where six identical pieces are arranged in a puzzle format, with the cooperation of a printing company using special synthetic paper.

This synthetic paper won't tear or delaminate easily, (it's not the paper used for elections) giving a sense of security during assembly, and the snapping feel is interesting. Also, since it's waterproof, it's fine even if you assemble it in the bath. Even if your hands sweat, it won't get soggy. Of course, regular cardboard works too. Though no baths allowed.

Prototype material

You can assemble it starting from anywhere, but I think it's better to mark the insertion positions so you can assemble it according to the original design. As a form, I think it's completed as a product.

Next Steps

Next is graphic design. We'll make a design that "makes sense to do with printing." Assembly instruction diagrams are also needed. And packaging. Once it's visible, we'll approach the Shogi Hall. Going in directly is fine, but if anyone has strong connections to the Shogi Hall, please raise your hand.

By the way, this is the first white sample. The original design is hand-held size.

See you next time.
